Work Anniversary Wishes: Message Builder for Colleagues, Managers and Teams
Build work anniversary wishes for a colleague, a direct report, your manager, a whole team or your own LinkedIn post. Choose the milestone, tone and channel, and the builder gives you a work anniversary message written by hand that you can copy and adjust. Nothing you type leaves this page.
Your shortlist
Nothing saved yet. Use “Add to shortlist” on any message you like. The shortlist stays on this page only and clears when you leave or reload.
How the builder works
The builder holds 160 messages, each written by hand for one recipient and one tone. Some suit any year and some are written for a particular stage: the first year, 2 to 4 years, 5 to 9 years, 10 to 14 years, and 15 years or more. Your milestone is written into the message, so 1 year reads “1 year” and “1st”, and 5 years reads “5 years” and “5th”. If you add a name or something the person is known for, the builder puts it into the message as plain text.
The channel changes the layout. Email adds a subject line, greeting and sign-off. Slack or Teams and LinkedIn keep to shorter messages. Speech opener adds a first line for the room before the message. “Another one” moves through every message for your choices before any repeats.
Worked example
Choose “A colleague”, 5 years, Warm and Card, and type the name Priya. The first message the builder gives is:
5 years, Priya. That is a lot of launches, late changes and shared lunches. Happy work anniversary to a colleague who makes the hard days manageable and the good days better.
Select “Another one” to see the other warm messages for a colleague at 5 years.
Recognition that lands: short guidance for managers
A work anniversary message takes a minute to send, and people remember whether it was written for them or sent to everyone. Three habits make the difference.
- Be specific. “Thank you for your hard work” could be sent to anyone. “Thank you for rebuilding the onboarding checklist” could only be sent to one person. Use the “known for” box above, or replace a sentence with a real example from the past year.
- Name the contribution. Say what the person did and who it helped. Years of service are the occasion for the message, and the contribution is the reason for the thanks.
- Match the channel to the person. Some people enjoy a mention in the team meeting. Others would much prefer a card or a private message. If you are not sure, ask, or choose the quieter option.
Send the message on the day, spell the name correctly and check the number of years against your records before you post it. If the whole team signs a card, ask each person to add one line of their own.

Questions about work anniversary messages
What do you write for work anniversary wishes?
Good work anniversary wishes name the milestone, thank the person for something specific and stay short. Two or three sentences is enough for a card or a chat message. For example: “Happy 5th work anniversary. You are the person I go to when I need a straight answer and a kind one at the same time. That is a rare mix, and I do not take it for granted.” The builder above has 160 messages to start from.
How do you say happy work anniversary professionally?
Keep to the milestone, the contribution and your thanks, and leave out jokes and personal remarks. For example: “Congratulations on 10 years with the company. Your work is consistently careful and well thought through, and it raises the standard for the rest of us. Wishing you a happy work anniversary.” Choose the Professional tone in the builder to see more like this.
What is a short work anniversary message for Slack or Teams?
One or two sentences works best in chat, where a long message can read like a speech. For example: “3 years today. Congratulations, and thank you for all you do.” Choose the Short tone and the Slack or Teams channel in the builder for more.
What do you write for a 1 year work anniversary?
For a first anniversary, mention how the person has settled in and what they have already added to the team. For example: “One year already! It feels like you have been part of this team far longer, and I mean that as the highest praise. Happy 1st work anniversary. Here is to everything you have picked up, fixed and improved since day one.” Choose 1 year as the milestone in the builder and the wording changes to suit a first year.
How do I post about my own work anniversary on LinkedIn?
Say how long you have been in the role, thank the people who helped, and keep the attention on them. For example: “Today marks 5 years in my role. I am grateful to the colleagues who taught me, challenged me and made the work feel worthwhile. Thank you to everyone who has been part of it so far.” Choose “Myself” in the builder for more first-person posts.
Should a manager recognize a work anniversary in public or in private?
Match the channel to the person. Some people enjoy being thanked in a team meeting, and others would much prefer a card or a private message. If you do not know, ask them or choose the quieter option. In either case, name one specific thing they have contributed.
