Best for: Multinationals with many countries and legal entities that want one global HR record, especially those on SAP finance or moving off SAP's older on-premise HR system.
What it covers
Employee Central is the core HR record, with benefits, time tracking and absence. Payroll (UK and US), recruiting, onboarding, learning, performance and goals, compensation, HR service management and people analytics are sold module by module. SAP says Employee Central Payroll connects to 60 countries. Skills and talent marketplace tools are included. SAP bought SmartRecruiters in 2025. The Joule assistant runs across the suite.
What it does not do
- Employee listening. Surveys come through the Qualtrics partnership or another survey tool.
- Recognition. No recognition product appears on SAP's pages.
- Frontline and internal comms. The mobile app covers self-service. Intranet, news and frontline messaging come from separate tools.
- Learning content, which comes from content providers.
- Scheduling for large hourly workforces. Workforce Scheduling is new, and many buyers use a specialist tool.
- Some UK specifics, such as pensions auto-enrolment and right-to-work checks, which often need external providers.
