London, UK – Tesco has announced a significant evolution of its six-year partnership with Wellhub, extending enhanced wellness benefits to its vast UK workforce of more than 300,000 employees. This strategic renewal provides a compelling case study for HR professionals and business leaders on how major employers are adapting wellbeing programmes to meet the complex needs of modern, diverse workforces.

The collaboration, which began in January 2019 as access to fitness facilities, has matured into a comprehensive wellbeing platform. It now addresses Tesco’s three core pillars of wellness: healthy body, healthy mind, and nutrition. With over 25,000 Tesco employees already enrolled, the relaunch aims to significantly boost participation and extend these transformative benefits further across the organisation.

“After six years of partnership, Wellhub has evolved from simply being a gym benefit, by becoming more holistic proposition, aligning with our wellbeing strategy,” said Dhavani Bishop, Head of Group Colleague Health & Wellbeing at Tesco. “The increased accessibility of physical locations and the range of choice appeals to our diverse colleague base. With the streamlined one-click registration, access to physical fitness, mental wellbeing and family health we’re excited to relaunch this enhanced program across our UK and ROI businesses.”

“What’s particularly powerful is how Wellhub supports not just physical fitness, but mental wellbeing, family health, sleep, and nutrition, and specialised needs of different employee groups.”

Bishop emphasised the comprehensive nature of the updated offering: “What’s particularly powerful is how Wellhub supports not just physical fitness, but mental wellbeing, family health, sleep, and nutrition, and specialised needs of different employee groups. In today’s challenging retail environment, giving our colleagues flexible, accessible tools to support their personal wellbeing journey is more important than ever.”

Key Enhancements for a Modern Workforce

The renewed partnership brings several strategic improvements designed to overcome common barriers to wellbeing programme adoption and effectiveness:

  • Enhanced User Experience: A critical update is the new one-click registration process, replacing a previous eight-click flow. This significant simplification aims to remove key participation barriers, providing a valuable lesson for HR teams on the importance of frictionless access to benefits.
  • Addressing Diverse Workforce Needs: The solutions have been refined over six years to accommodate Tesco’s varied workforce across head offices, stores, and delivery operations, each with differing schedules and locations. This adaptability highlights a best practice for large organisations managing complex employee demographics.
  • Accessibility and Convenience: The network of available options has expanded from an initial 1,400 to 3,000 fitness facilities, ensuring convenient options for employees in a multitude of locations. This geographical reach is vital for a distributed workforce.
  • Options at Every Price Point: Employees can now access fitness solutions across multiple price brackets, making wellbeing accessible regardless of individual budget levels. This inclusivity broadens the appeal and reach of the programme.
  • Family-Inclusive Benefits: Reflecting a holistic view of wellbeing, employees can now easily add family members to their plan at accessible price points. This move acknowledges that personal wellbeing is deeply intertwined with family health and support, shifting beyond individual-centric perks.
  • Specialised Wellbeing Programmes: The partnership has led to the development of resources tailored for specific employee resource groups, including initiatives focused on parents’ wellbeing and women’s health. This targeted support demonstrates a commitment to inclusive wellbeing.
  • Engagement Through Challenges: The programme incorporates business-wide wellness challenges designed to drive participation in overall health and wellbeing activities, fostering a sense of community and encouraging healthy habits.

This renewed partnership exemplifies how comprehensive, accessible, and flexible wellbeing programmes are becoming indispensable tools for employee retention, engagement, and overall organisational health in today’s dynamic employment landscape. It underscores the value of strategic, long-term investments in supporting the holistic wellbeing of a diverse workforce.
